Jayne's Country Garden

The Garden - Winter 2010/2011

While the winter of 2010/2011 wasn't anywhere near as dramatic as the previous winter, with no snow fall, and no visits from The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore, it was a particularly harsh one and Houston gardeners lost a lot of plants.

Overnight, the lush green fennel turned to brown mush...

As did the Sweet Potato Vine...

It wasn't a total loss though and before the freezes hit, I took advantage of some pleasantly cool temperatures around Thanksgiving to lay some stones around the two trees in front, to match the border in the back garden and get rid of the ugly plastic edging.

My mum, visiting for Thanksgiving, supervised while I worked :-)

And then, before we knew it, it was February and the daffodils were filling the garden with their sunshine...
